May 17th: Stuff Going On

Lots of great stuff going on here in Seattle this week. Here’s a look at some of the places I will try to be...
---------------------------
Event: Miranda July @ Neumos FREE
Thursday, May 17th

Miranda July will be doing a reading at Neumos to promote her new book, No One Belongs Here More Than You.

If you have a few minutes, check out the promo site for the book.

This event is a Reading and Dance Party and also features Sarah Rudinoff, Becky Stark (of Lavender Diamond), “Awesome” and DJ Sam Rousso Sound System.

This event is FREE!

Film: Once
Friday May 18th

On Friday we will be attending a special SIFF Screening of the film ONCE. I have been looking forward to seeing this movie.

Music: Joy Wants Eternity
Thursday, March 17th @ Sunset Tavern
Saturday, March 19th @ Atlas Clothing

I heard the band Joy Wants Eternity playing a live on KEXP last week, and wanted to buy their CD immediately, however the CD had not come out yet.

Good news. They are playing a couple of CD Release shows this week.

They are playing Thursday, March 17th at Sunset Tavern and Saturday, March 19th at Atlas Clothing (I didn’t realize they had shows here!)

Highly suggested if you like bands like Explosions in The Sky and Mogwai. Look for them soon in the "Shoegazy Instumental Space-rock" section of your local record store.

Event: U-District Street Fair
Saturday, May 19th and Sunday May 20th

The U-District Street Fair is this weekend. I have never been, but seeing that it takes place only 2 block from my house – I am definitely have to check it out. I don’t think we will move our car this weekend because parking is going to be crazy. I am not too excited about any of the performances, just looking forward to some good ole people watching and some foodies!

Music: Ben Gibbard & David Bazan @ The Showbox
Sunday, May 20th and Monday May 21st

I am not a huge fan of singer/songwriter shows at the Showbox, but I am excited to see this show. I have a live recording somewhere of Ben Gibbard playing the 5th Floor Coffee house in Bellingham in 2001. I remember he played a Backstreet Boys cover.
